Near Newburgh in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, rises the ruin of Knockhall Castle. The remains of this former tower house offer a glimpse into Scotland's past.

History+

Knockhall Castle was erected in 1565 by Lord Sinclair of Newburgh, who had it built as a tower house at the mouth of the Ythan River. In the 17th century, the property passed to the Udny Clan, who inhabited it from 1634. In 1639, the castle suffered damage when it was captured by the Earl Marischal for the Covenanters.
