Royal City Palace

The Royal City Palace was built after 1707 by the master builder Giovanni Simonetti on the site of the old episcopal palace, incorporating the chapel.

The palace served as the residence for the respective rulers and was continuously expanded and embellished over the centuries. It is considered one of the most important Baroque buildings in the region.

The palace complex consists of several wings that enclose a spacious inner courtyard. The main facade is characterized by a magnificent portal and richly decorated windows.

Inside, numerous state rooms, salons, and galleries impress with their opulent stucco work, ceiling paintings, and valuable furnishings.

The integrated chapel is a special highlight. It dates back to the Middle Ages and was harmoniously integrated into the Baroque new building. Inside, it houses impressive altars and frescoes.

The palace is surrounded by extensive gardens and parks that invite you to stroll and relax. Here you will find meticulously maintained parterres, fountains, and sculptures.

Today, the Royal City Palace houses a museum that provides insights into the history of the building and its former inhabitants. Parts of the palace are also used for cultural events and conferences.
