Koeth-Wanscheidsches Castle

The origins of the castle date back to the mid-18th century when Wolfgang Wilhelm von Rießmann, a Baden-Durlach court councilor, was recorded as the first known owner. A town plan from 1746 describes a stone “new” house, whose wooden beams were dendrochronologically dated to the years 1715–1718. This suggests that a predecessor building was destroyed during the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689 and subsequently rebuilt. In the second half of the 18th century, the property changed hands to the von Haumüller family and later to Georg August Heinrich von Kinkel.
