Isen Abbey

The origins of the Isen monastery date back to the 8th century. It was founded by members of the noble Fagana family and Bishop Joseph of Freising, making it one of the oldest monastic settlements in Old Bavaria. Duke Odilo and nobles close to him supported the monastery with donations. Until the early 12th century, it served as a Benedictine monastery before being converted into a collegiate church. The patronage of the collegiate church is dedicated to Zeno of Verona and Juliana of Nicomedia. In the course of secularization, the Isen collegiate church was dissolved in 1803. The collegiate buildings and associated courtyards, with the exception of the rectory and curate's house, subsequently passed into private ownership.

The former monastery is located in Isen, a market town in the Bavarian district of Erding in Germany. The complex is situated at an elevation of approximately 519 meters above sea level.

The former monastery church is now used as a parish church and thus remains a central place of religious life in Isen. The other former collegiate buildings are largely in private hands.
