Kloster Sankt Andrä Freising

The Collegiate Church of St. Andrä, formerly known as the Benedictine monastery of Hugibertsmünster, was a significant sacred building on the Cathedral Hill in Freising, Bavaria. It was one of the most important ecclesiastical institutions in the region and shaped the religious life of the city for centuries.
History+
The origins of the collegiate church date back to the early 8th century, when a family monastery called Hugibertsmünster was founded by the priest Hugibert before 720. This Benedictine monastery likely existed until the 10th century. However, the church dedicated to St. Andrew survived. Bishop Ellenhard re-established the Collegiate Church of St. Andrew before 1062, as evidenced by a donation deed from Emperor Henry IV in 1062. The collegiate church received lands in Istria as well as episcopal and inherited estates near Merano. The primary task of the initially 21 canons was to assist in the liturgy of Freising Cathedral. Over time, the number of canons decreased. The collegiate church was dissolved on November 27, 1802, as part of the secularization, and its buildings were closed at the end of 1803 and later demolished.
Location+
The former Collegiate Church of St. Andrä was located on the Cathedral Hill in Freising, a city in Upper Bavaria, Germany. It was situated west of the Prince-Bishop's Residence.
On site+
Little remains of the original collegiate buildings today. On the site of the former provost's courtyard, the Archdiocesan Boys' Seminary was later built, which now houses the Freising Diocesan Museum. The St. Andrew's Fountain from 1697, along with some manor houses of the canons and the former archive building, still commemorate the collegiate church's former existence.
