Kollegiatstift St. Mariae Himmelfahrt, Laufen

The Collegiate Church was founded in 1618. Archbishop Paris von Lodron of Salzburg initiated the establishment of this spiritual community, whose statutes were in effect from 1621. The foundation, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, experienced a varied history. Although there was no formal dissolution during the secularization, the canonries were no longer filled after 1809, marking the end of its monastic function. As early as 1796, the church treasury had been plundered by French troops, and in 1806, the dean's residence served as a military hospital. The existing collegiate church was redesigned in the Baroque style for use by the canons, with a separate choir later being added for the clergy, distinct from the area accessible to the laity.
