Kollegiatstift Vilshofen

The Collegiate Monastery, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, was founded in 1376 by Heinrich Tuschl von Söldenau. Throughout its existence, the monastery acquired numerous privileges and received extensive donations. The local parish church of Vilshofen was consequently elevated to a collegiate church. A devastating fire in 1794 caused significant destruction to the collegiate monastery. In the course of secularization, the monastery was finally dissolved in 1803. The collegiate church, damaged by the fire, was rebuilt in the same year as a parish church and furnished with items from the former Augustinian Canons' Monastery of St. Nikola in Passau and from the monastery church of Aldersbach. The original monastery building has since served as the rectory.

The former collegiate monastery is located in Vilshofen an der Donau, a town in Bavaria, Germany, within the Diocese of Passau.

Today, the former monastery building houses the rectory. The former collegiate church continues to be used as a parish church and stands as a testament to the site's eventful past.
