Ramersdorf Castle

The origins of the Ramersdorf Commandery date back to the 13th century, when it was established around 1230 as an institution of the Teutonic Order. Although the exact founding charter is lost, the construction period of St. George's Chapel between 1220 and 1230 suggests the main buildings were erected during this time. Count Heinrich III of Sayn and his wife Mechthild are considered likely founders. The first documented mention of the commandery dates to 1254. Its primary task was to provide economic services to the Order.
