Koninklijk Paleis

To be privately owned

The Koninklijk Paleis is an 18th-century city palace in Antwerp, Belgium. Originally built as a residence for a merchant, it served various monarchs as a reception venue.

History+

Construction of the palace began in the mid-18th century, commissioned by the merchant Joan Alexander van Susteren. The Antwerp architect Jan Pieter van Baurscheidt de Jonge was responsible for its construction. In 1811, Napoleon acquired the property and had it redesigned and refurnished. After Napoleon's expulsion, the palace fell into the hands of the Dutch Crown when Belgium was under Dutch rule.
