The Crusader castle Belhacem, also known as Qalaat Abi al-Hassan, is an impressive fortress ruin rising in Lebanon. It was built by the Crusaders and once served to secure the hinterland of Sidon.
History+
The fortress of Belhacem was constructed by the Crusaders of the Kingdom of Jerusalem at the beginning of the 12th century. Its first mention in historical chronicles occurred in 1128, when the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Garmond of Picquigny, led a siege against robbers residing in the castle. Strategically, Belhacem was of great importance, as it protected the hinterland of Sidon together with the fortified caves of Tyron.

The ruin of Belhacem is located approximately 7 kilometers east of Sidon, on a forested mountain spur overlooking a bend in the Awali River. It is situated in the Nabatieh region, in the Nabatieh district, Lebanon, and lies at an altitude of approximately 159 meters above sea level.
