Bornstedt Castle

In 1664, the Brandenburg Elector acquired the Bornstedt knight's estate. Under the reign of Frederick William I, a brewery, a distillery, and from 1727, a hop garden were established on the grounds, the latter later making way for Lenné's plans. After the estate was temporarily under the Potsdam office, Frederick William IV bought it back in 1841. Between 1846 and 1848, the property was rebuilt in the Italian style after a fire, with designs by Johann Heinrich Haeberlin based on royal specifications. From 1867, it served as the residence for Crown Prince Frederick William and Victoria. In 1875, Emil Sello redesigned the garden in the English style.
