Kropsburg Castle

The origins of Kropsburg Castle date back to around 1200, when it was built under the Staufer dynasty as part of a defensive ring to protect the Imperial Castle of Trifels. Initially used as the seat of a ministerialis, it later developed into a Ganerbenburg with multiple owners who expanded it into an upper and lower castle. After the end of the Staufer dynasty in the 13th century, the castle passed into the possession of the Prince-Bishopric of Speyer and was enfeoffed to various noble families. In 1441, the Dalberg family became owners, whose members served as administrative officials. A castle chapel of St. Aegidius is mentioned in a document from 1522.
