Kurfürstliches Castle Bonn

The origins of the palace date back to 1567–1577, when Elector Salentin von Isenburg had a predecessor building constructed. However, this was completely destroyed in 1689 during the recapture of Bonn by Joseph Clemens' troops. Between 1697 and 1705, reconstruction took place under Elector Joseph Clemens according to plans by Enrico Zuccalli, with Antonio Riva as construction manager. Around 1700, a double church was added to the west wing, which would later make way for the university's current auditorium. Robert de Cotte made the building more open from 1715 to 1723 and laid out the Hofgarten. A Madonna statue, the 'Regina Pacis', was placed on the south side in 1744.
