Kuusisto Castle, now an impressive ruin, was once a significant episcopal center in the region. Located on Kuusisto Island near Kaarina, it bears witness to Finland's medieval history.
History+
The origins of Kuusisto Castle date back to the early 14th century, when it was likely constructed. The site had already served as an episcopal seat around 1290. However, its existence came to an abrupt end in 1528 when King Gustav I of Sweden ordered its destruction during the Protestant Reformation. Towards the end of the 19th century, specifically from 1891, efforts began to restore the remaining ruins.
