Launceston Castle

The Castle can be visited

In Cornwall, England, stands Launceston Castle, the ruin of a Norman fortress that once belonged to the Earls of Cornwall.

History+

The origins of Launceston Castle date back to the Norman period, when it served as a fortress for the Earls of Cornwall. The castle also housed the town's prison. During World War II, a hospital found refuge within its walls. The southern gatehouse, in the Middle Ages, led into the Earl's private deer park. It was secured with heavy doors and a portcullis and accessible via a fortified bridge over a moat. An apartment was located above the gate.
