Leamaneh Castle

The origins of Leamaneh Castle date back to 1480, when Toirdelbhach Donn MacTadhg Ó Briain, King of Thomond and a direct descendant of Brian Boru, had a tower house built on this site. By 1548, the castle was owned by his son Murrough, who later became the first Earl of Thomond and Baron Inchiquin. The current form of the estate was established in 1648 by Conor O'Brien and his wife Máire ní Mahon, known as "Máire Rúa" or "Red Mary" due to her red hair. After Conor's death in battle against the English in 1651, his widow married the English officer Cornet John Cooper to secure ownership of the lands. Cooper left the military and acquired wealth through real estate dealings, but later Leamaneh faced financial difficulties and had to be mortgaged. Máire Rúa's son Donagh, later Sir Donagh, was the last O'Brien to inhabit the castle before the family moved to Dromoland Castle.

The ruin of Leamaneh Castle is located in the town of the same name in County Clare (An Clár) in the Munster (An Mhumhain) region of Ireland. It stands at an elevation of approximately 54 meters above sea level.
