Little Moreton Hall

The House can be visited

In Cheshire East, England, near Congleton, stands Little Moreton Hall, a half-timbered house surrounded by a moat. It is an example of its kind in the United Kingdom, with 15th and 16th-century architecture.

History+

The origins of Little Moreton Hall date back to the early 16th century, when William Moreton began construction of the north wing, which housed the Great Hall, and the northern part of the east wing between 1504 and 1508. Around 1508, the east wing was extended to create living spaces and a chapel. Between 1560 and 1562, John Moreton added the south wing, which included a gatehouse and a long gallery on the third floor. The final structural additions, a small kitchen and a brewhouse, were made around 1610.
