Lough Rynn Castle

Hotel

Lough Rynn Castle, once a stately residence, now presents itself as an elegant hotel in the picturesque Irish landscape. Located in County Leitrim near Mohill, it is an impressive example of historical architecture, surrounded by extensive parklands.

History+

The origins of Lough Rynn Castle date back approximately 200 years. The current castle building was constructed in 1833 according to the designs of Robert Clements. Particularly influential was the era of the 3rd Lord of Leitrim, William Sydney Clements, who with great dedication sought to transform the estate into a model enterprise. He initiated extensive construction projects, expanded land ownership, and advocated for a ban on slash-and-burn farming. One of his most significant reforms was the abolition of a traditional land-use system, where families received proportional plots of land that became progressively smaller over the years, eventually becoming insufficient to sustain the families.
