Luxemburgisches Castle (Königstein)

The origins of the current castle date back to 1581 when, following the annexation of the County of Königstein by Kurmainz, an administrative building was erected for the chief bailiff Gernand von Schwallbach. This initial structure was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, leading to a new construction between 1686 and 1694. This building also suffered war damage in the 18th century. From 1810, the Renthof served as the official residence, while the former administrative building was assigned to the Nassau state chief bailiff's office and lower courts. In 1820, the Frankfurt leather merchant Georg Christian Dörr acquired the property and converted it into his summer residence.
