Marble Hill House

The House can be visited

Southwest of London on the banks of the River Thames is Marble Hill House, an elegant mansion in the Palladian style. Built for Lady Henrietta Howard, it is an example of Georgian architecture and is now open to visitors.

History+

The construction of Marble Hill House took place between 1724 and 1729. It was commissioned by Lady Henrietta Howard, later Countess of Suffolk and mistress of King George II. The architectural designs were created by Colen Campbell, who drew inspiration from the works of Andrea Palladio and Inigo Jones. Roger Morris supervised the construction. The gardens were designed by the royal gardener Charles Bridgemann and the poet Alexander Pope.
