The St. Mary's Church in Zwickau, also known regionally as the “Zwickau Cathedral,” is a sacred building. Originally built in the Romanesque style, it was transformed into a late Gothic hall church and shapes the cityscape with its distinctive Baroque bell tower.

The origins of St. Mary's Church date back to around 1180, when it was built as a Romanesque hall church. Between 1453 and 1563, renovations transformed the edifice into a three-aisled hall church in the late Gothic style. However, the current 87-meter-high church tower is a Baroque work from 1672, replacing a predecessor damaged by lightning. The church was a place of activity for figures such as Hieronymus Dungersheim from 1501 and Thomas Müntzer, who preached here in 1520. From 1885 to 1891, St.
