History of the Building+

The palace was built from 1850 to 1870 by Grand Duke Georg of Mecklenburg-Strelitz for his wife Grand Duchess Marie, Princess of Hesse-Kassel. From 1860 to 1880, the palace served as the dower house for the Grand Duchess.
