Marienstift

The foundation of the Marienstift dates back to a donation by the pensioner Elisabeth Nagel around 1907/1908. She transferred her property to the parish of St. Stephanus in Bockum with the condition that a convent be established there. The “Sisters of the Christian Schools of Mercy of Heiligenstadt” gave their consent in April 1908, and after episcopal and ministerial approval, four sisters began their work on November 9, 1909. They dedicated themselves to outpatient nursing, running a kindergarten, and a handicraft school for girls. The foundation was expanded several times, including a house chapel in 1924 and an extensive renovation and expansion in 1932, which optimized the premises for the growing tasks. Despite the threat from political circumstances from 1933 onwards, the Marienstift managed to maintain its independence. In 1977, the sisters' station was closed, but in 1994, it was reoccupied by sisters of the same order, who settled at the parish of Christus König in Hövel.

The Marienstift is located in Bockum, a district of the city of Hamm in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Following the closure of the sisters' station in 1977, the premises of the former Marienstift are now used by the central accounting office of the Hamm-Nord deanery. The kindergarten, which was originally part of the foundation, moved to a neighboring new building in 1982.
