The Margrave's Castle in Bad Alexanderbad is a structure that shapes the core of the spa town. Although referred to as a castle, it did not originally serve as a noble residence but rather as a bathhouse and accommodation for spa guests.

History+

The origins of the current castle date back to 1734, when a healing spring was discovered in the valley south of Sichersreuth. After word of the sour spring's properties spread, the Wunsiedel Kastenamtmann Schwarz had the spring enclosed and fortified. In 1741, a first wooden house was built for the spring attendant. Margrave Friedrich acquired the spring grounds in 1751 and in 1753 granted permission for the construction of a bathhouse for ten spa guests. Under Margrave Alexander of Brandenburg-Ansbach, who took over the principality of Bayreuth in 1769, the development into Alexandersbad began in 1780.
