Museum

On Hellbrunner Berg in the south of Salzburg stands the Monatsschlössl, a 17th-century hunting lodge. It is part of the Hellbrunn Palace park and now houses a museum.

History+

Originally, the palace was named Waldemsschlösschen, a reference to Markus Sittikus von Hohenems, its builder. It was presumably built in 1615 and was once centrally aligned with the Mannerist palace garden's water parterre. This was originally designed as a strawberry hill with “Turkish strawberries.” A legend claims that the small palace was built in just one month to surprise a visiting duke, though this has been refuted by historians.
