In the county of Somerset, England, stands Montacute House, a manor and country house. It is considered an example of Elizabethan architecture.

History+

The Phelips family was already established in Montacute before 1466. Around 1588, Edward Phelips, a legal scholar at the royal court, began constructing the manor house in his home village. Completed around 1601, the estate served as the Phelips family residence until 1911. After a period of being leased, including to Lord Curzon, the house was even offered for demolition in 1929.
