History+

The origins of the New Abbey Wolmirstedt date back to 1225, when a monastery was founded here. It was dedicated to Saints Catherine and Pancras and was inhabited by Cistercian nuns. The current main building, a late Baroque structure, was built in 1732 with a north and south wing connected by a central pavilion and crowned by high mansard roofs. The monastery was dissolved in 1810. Subsequently, the property served as a manor house for the collegiate estate until 1945.

After being used as a manor house and undergoing extensive remodeling in the 1960s, which transformed it into a school, the building stood vacant for a considerable period.
