The New Residence in Passau, an example of late Baroque architecture, once served as the residence for prince-bishops.

History+

Between 1712 and 1730, the New Residence was constructed in the Viennese late Baroque style. The Italian Domenico d’Angeli and the Viennese Antonio Beduzzi are presumed to be the master builders. Under Prince-Bishop Cardinal Leopold Ernst von Firmian, the building underwent significant expansion from 1765 to 1771: Melchior Hefele from Vienna redesigned the facade with two portals and a roof balustrade. The two balconies bear the years 1770 and 1771.
