New Princely Palais

The palace, also known as Hermine Palace, was completed in 1896 and served as the widow's residence for Princess Hermine zu Waldeck-Pyrmont, the widow of Prince Adolf I Georg zu Schaumburg-Lippe. Construction was overseen by the architect Hermann Schaedtler from Hanover. During World War II, the building was used as a military hospital and later as an officers' mess by the Royal Air Force. In the 1950s, it housed various uses, including a margarine factory and rented apartments. In 1960, a school leased the palace and purchased it in 1969. After fires in 1945 and 1964, which damaged the roof and the east tower, the building was restored in 1980 based on historical construction documents.
