New Manor Kahnsdorf

The old Kahnsdorf manor house stands on the remains of a medieval moated castle. This was apparently built by Frankish settlers on a defensive structure (suburbs) of the Slavic inhabitants. This moated castle was surrounded by the Öltzschgraben and an artificial moat. The moats were fortified with ramparts and palisades. A residential tower, probably made of wood or stone, stood on the core structure known as the "Bühl". In 1350, Heinemannus de Kansdorf is mentioned as the owner of the manor. Later landlords expanded this moated castle several times with stone residential houses, thus creating the Kahnsdorf knight's estate. In 1445/47 the estate is referred to as a knight's seat, and from 1548 as a knight's estate. Around 1551, the village and the estate were owned by the von Breitenbach family. They were followed at the beginning of the 17th century by Friedrich von Etzdorf, later the Kress, Thielebein, John, Sieber, Ernesti and Wendler & Schubauer families.

In 1902, the owner family Forker-Schubauer built the new manor house and redesigned the surrounding grounds. The moat was partially filled in, and the new manor house took the form of a moated castle. Overall, the alterations resulted in a manor house with a pond, which harmoniously blended into the park grounds. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.

During the GDR era, the old manor house was the seat of the municipal council. The new manor house housed apartments and the village's nursery. The built-in ballroom of the new manor house is still used today as a meeting room and for holding celebrations. The old manor house houses the local history museum of Kahnsdorf.
