New Castle Althofen

The castle's origins date back to the 13th or 14th century, when it served as a residence for the Archbishops of Salzburg or their administrators. This early structure was destroyed during the Hungarian Wars. Around the year 1500, reconstruction took place under the direction of Leonhard von Keutschach. Following secularization in 1803, the castle became state property. In 1845, Eugen Baron von Dickmann acquired the estate. He and his son carried out alterations between 1847 and 1849, including the addition of a crenellated corner tower and the design of the south facade with balconies and cornice bands. In the second half of the 20th century, the castle was divided into two halves and sold to different owners.
