New Castle Bad Muskau
The New Palace Bad Muskau is an impressive three-winged complex in Neo-Renaissance style, harmoniously integrated into the famous Muskau Park. It is located in Bad Muskau in the Görlitz district of Saxony, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 107 meters above sea level. The palace forms the architectural and design heart of the expansive landscape park.
History+
The history of the New Palace is closely linked to the changing owners of the Muskau dominion. Originally built on the foundations of a medieval moated castle and an initial palace complex from the 16th century, its current appearance was largely shaped in the 19th century. Between 1863 and 1866, extensive renovations in Neo-Renaissance style were carried out on behalf of Prince Frederick of the Netherlands, planned and executed by architects Maximilian Franz Strasser and Hermann Wentzel. This construction phase also integrated older structural elements, such as the early modern bastions, leading to peculiarities in the building structure, such as unevenly wide side wings and a non-rectangular north wing.
