New Castle Bad Muskau

The history of the New Palace is closely linked to the changing owners of the Muskau dominion. Originally built on the foundations of a medieval moated castle and an initial palace complex from the 16th century, its current appearance was largely shaped in the 19th century. Between 1863 and 1866, extensive renovations in Neo-Renaissance style were carried out on behalf of Prince Frederick of the Netherlands, planned and executed by architects Maximilian Franz Strasser and Hermann Wentzel. This construction phase also integrated older structural elements, such as the early modern bastions, leading to peculiarities in the building structure, such as unevenly wide side wings and a non-rectangular north wing.

The New Palace is situated in Bad Muskau in the Görlitz district, in the region of Saxony, Germany. It stands at an elevation of approximately 107 meters above sea level.

Today, the New Palace Bad Muskau houses a museum. The central wing contains the visitor information for the Fürst Pückler Foundation. The south wing is dedicated to the life and work of the park's creator, Prince Pückler, with a permanent exhibition, while the north wing hosts the Green School, a training and education center for aspiring park caretakers. The south tower is accessible to visitors and offers panoramic views over the park and surrounding area.
