New Castle Behringersdorf

In 1715, Christoph Wilhelm von Tucher submitted a building application to the Sebaldi Forest Office for the construction of a wintering house for garden plants with a carriage house under one roof. The new building was approved because an existing carriage house, which was to be demolished, stood in its place. For 30 guilders, the builder acquired a fire right for the installation of an oven so that the wintering house could be heated.

The submitted plan was never realized. The builder sent further drawings and requested an additional fire right in 1717, which was denied. Eventually, it became known that a new building was being constructed in Behringersdorf that had little to do with the building application. Tucher had meanwhile begun the construction of a manor house over 30 meters long and about 11 meters wide, according to the plans and under the direction of master builder Johann Ulrich Mösel, the continuation of which was forbidden by the Forest Office in 1717. Nevertheless, Christoph Wilhelm Tucher provisionally roofed the shell. Only after a longer legal dispute was the completion of the shell approved in 1720, but not its conversion into a manor house. As late as 1729, work was secretly carried out on the interior of the ground floor, which earned the executing mason a 48-hour arrest. Finally, the builder pushed through the furnishing of the lower rooms by 1732. The upper floor apparently remained in its shell state. Only around 1745 is the upper floor said to have received stucco ceilings. The school was temporarily housed on the ground floor, while the upper floor apparently had to remain unused. In 1811, the interior work was still not completed. The massive two-story sandstone ashlar building, whose appearance is characterized by the hip roof and the large dormer, remains in family ownership to this day.
