New Castle (Höchst)

The origins of the New Castle, also known as the “Cavaliersbau,” likely date back to the late 16th century, when it probably began as a noble estate. During the expansion of the town and the Höchst Castle complex at that time, it was transformed into an electoral guesthouse. Following secularization in 1803, the property first passed to the Duchy of Nassau and later, in 1866, to the Prussian financial administration. In the mid-19th century, the New Castle was owned by the Andreae-Winkler family, who operated a wine merchant business there until 1863. In 1908, the von Brüning family acquired the entire castle complex, using it as a residence and guesthouse.
