Neues Castle Hummelshain

The New Hunting Lodge Hummelshain is a castle in the municipality of Hummelshain in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia. It was built between 1880 and 1885 in the Neo-Renaissance style.

In 1880, the construction of a new, more representative hunting lodge in Hummelshain, today's New Hunting Lodge Hummelshain, was planned by the imperial court architects Ernst von Ihne and Paul Stegmüller on behalf of Duke Ernst I of Saxe-Altenburg. This castle, built between 1880 and 1885, was the last new castle construction in Thuringia. After the abdication of the Duke, the Vogel-Verlag acquired the castle in 1922. It served the Pößneck company as a residential and guesthouse. At the end of World War II, it was used as a hospital by the Reimahg company. From 1947-1992, the castle served as a children's and youth home as well as a youth work camp.
