Neustadt New Castle
The New Castle Neustadt, once a complex in the development of German castle architecture, is located in Neustadt an der Aisch. Today, it houses a school, with only the historic stair tower remaining as a reminder of its original form.
History+
Construction of the New Castle began in 1575 under Margrave Georg Friedrich. Peter Fahrenschon was the master builder, possibly with the involvement of Thomas Martinotus. It was completed in 1626 under Margrave Christian. The three-story building with an octagonal stair tower was an example of German castle architecture at the time. From 1794 to 1886, the castle served as a hussar barracks. A fire in 1906 completely destroyed the building. A primary school was built in its place by 1915, with the stair tower being preserved in a slightly altered form.
