The New Castle in Neustadt-Glewe is a Baroque structure in western Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is characterized by its Dutch Classicism and now serves as a hotel.

History+

Construction of the castle began in 1618/19 under Duke Adolf Friedrich I, with designs by ducal architect Gerhart Evert Pilooth. Following Pilooth's death in 1629, construction ceased. The castle was completed between 1711 and 1717 under the direction of architect Leonhard Christoph Sturm. The interior decoration took another eight years. From 1725 to 1735, Christian Ludwig II resided in the New Castle before becoming Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
