In 1687, the ducal-Coburgian Master of the Horse, Hans Siegmund von Schaumberg, regained full rights to Rauenstein Castle and the Schaumberg dominion and attempted to sell them to Duke Albrecht of Saxe-Coburg, which failed due to the objection of the Ziegenfeld heirs. Between 1687 and 1690, he built a New Palace at the foot of the castle. The castle was no longer used and fell into ruin. Finally, in 1729, Duke Anton Ulrich of Saxe-Meiningen acquired the entire family estate from Hans Siegmund von Schaumberg. The palace served for a time as the town hall, and from 1783 to 1928 as the main building of the Rauenstein Porcelain Manufactory. Today, it houses the Rauenstein Porcelain Cabinet.
