The castle was built in 1634-35 by Wolf-Christoph von Reitzenstein. In 1678 the castle burned down and was rebuilt in 1691. The castle remained in the possession of the Lords of Reitzenstein until 1781. A new building was constructed in 1838-40. In 1949 the castle was renovated.
