In the Upper Palatinate Forest in Bavaria stands the New Castle Waldau, a medieval castle complex. It was built by the ministeriales of Waldau, who were also responsible for the construction of Schellenberg Castle.

History+

The origins of the New Castle Waldau date back to the early 13th century, when the keep was erected. Around 1350, an expansion took place with the construction of the palas and the addition of stories to existing buildings. In the 15th century, the Waldau family connected the two main building sections with an intermediate structure. After the extinction of the Waldau family in 1545, the complex passed into the possession of the Wirsberg family.
