The New Gate, also known by its Hebrew and Arabic names HaSha'ar HeChadash and Bāb ij-Jdïd, is a city gate in Jerusalem. It is distinguished by its late construction and serves as an access point to the Old City.

History+

The New Gate was erected in 1889. Its purpose was to improve the connection between the Christian Quarter within the Old City and the new Christian settlements developing outside the walls. Following the establishment of Israel, the gate remained closed to passage until the Six-Day War, when the Israeli army captured the Old City.

The New Gate is located in Jerusalem, in the Jerusalem District, Jerusalem Region, Israel. It stands at an elevation of 790 meters above sea level at the northwestern corner of the walled city area.
