Neuschloss Castle

The origins of Neuschloss can be traced back to 1232, when Duke Frederick II had a princely cattle farm built on this site, first documented in 1265. Under King Frederick III, the estate underwent an expansion in 1442, coinciding with the creation of the Wundschuh ponds. In the 16th century, ownership of the “Viehofen” estate changed hands several times among various noble families before Sebastian Speidl acquired it in 1609 and developed it into a noble residence named “Neuhofen” with its own jurisdiction. Between 1643 and 1780, the Counts of Dietrichstein shaped the property, transforming it into what was called “Neugeschoß.” After a brief interlude under Josef Edler von Leonarde in 1794, the Counts of Enffans d’Avernas took possession of the castle in 1804, holding their own jurisdiction until 1848. Under their patronage, a third floor was added to the building between 1804 and 1809.

Neuschloss is situated southeast of Wundschuh on the southern edge of the Graz Plain in Styria, Austria, at an elevation of approximately 316 m above sea level.
