Niederburg Kranichfeld

The Niederschloss, today's Niederburg, was first mentioned in a document in 1147. The oldest mention dates back to 1143, as the seat of a collateral line of the Counts of Käfernburg-Schwarzburg, who divided their property in 1172. In 1906, Miss Rauchfuß became the new owner of the Niederburg, giving the house a new appearance, as it still presents itself today. In 1976, the Niederburg was a popular FDGB holiday property. In 1989, at the time of the political change, the castle became the property of the city of Kranichfeld, and in 1994, a hereditary lease agreement for the use of the castle was concluded with the company Muehl Product & Service Kranichfeld. During this time, renovation work was carried out. The roof was re-covered, the kitchen was removed and a new sanitary facility was built in its place. The castle courtyard was redesigned and a modern heating system was installed. After the insolvency of the Muehl company, the Niederburg reverted to the ownership of the city of Kranichfeld.
