The Niederschloss, today's Niederburg, was first mentioned in a document in 1147. The oldest mention dates back to 1143, as the seat of a collateral line of the Counts of Käfernburg-Schwarzburg, who divided their property in 1172. In 1906, Miss Rauchfuß became the new owner of the Niederburg, giving the house a new appearance, as it still presents itself today. In 1976, the Niederburg was a popular FDGB holiday property.
