The church can be visited

St. Nicholas Church in Wismar, an example of North German Brick Gothic, was built between 1381 and 1487. It once served as a house of worship for the city's seafarers and fishermen and is now an integral part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wismar's Old Town.

A church dedicated to St. Nicholas is presumed to have been at the center of the parish before the mid-13th century. Construction of the current church began around 1370. Master builder Heinrich von Bremen, known for his work on St. Michael's Monastery in Lüneburg, was commissioned in 1381 to complete the choir. The high altar was consecrated in 1403. Under the direction of Peter Stolp and Hermann von Münster, the church was consecrated in 1459. Between 1485 and 1487, Hans Mertens erected the upper tower floors, and the spire was added in 1508.
