The upper castle, a tall two-story gabled building, was built over a Gothic core. In the 15th century, the Rorenstätter family resided there, and in the 16th century, the Vestenberg family. In 1550, a Vestenberg sold the upper castle to a Mistelbacher, who owned the lower castle.
