Upper Castle Immendingen

The Upper Castle Immendingen now serves as the town hall of the municipality. Its origins date back to the 12th century.

The oldest part of the castle dates to the 12th century. In 1409 and again in 1466, it was owned by the Lords of Almenshofen, who held it until 1531. In 1807, the House of Fürstenberg acquired the Upper Castle from the von Reischach family. In 1835, Baden's first machine factory was established here, utilizing a large waterwheel powered by the Weisenbach stream. Production included wheels, as well as sawmills and gristmills. In 1889, manufacturing moved to the Lower Castle. In the 1930s, the municipality of Immendingen acquired the castle, which served as living quarters, including for refugees, until 1961.
