The castle was built around 1540 as a summer residence for the Bamberg Prince-Bishop Weigand von Redwitz. In the 17th century, alterations were made. In 1886, ownership changed to the company Gagel and Schemenau. In 1910, the castle was renovated. Today, the castle is privately owned.
