Upper Castle (Ruppersdorf)

The Ruppersdorf manor house, a building with a rich history, is located in the municipality of Ruppersdorf in Saxony. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, with the first documented mention of a fortified building in Ruppersdorf dating back to 1300. Over the centuries, the manor house has undergone numerous changes and additions, reflecting the respective architectural styles and the needs of its inhabitants.

Architectural Features

The current appearance of the manor house is characterized by elements from various eras. The core of the building probably dates from the Renaissance, as indicated by the massive walls and the vaulted cellars. In the 18th century, significant Baroque alterations were made, which are still visible today in the elegant facade design and the spacious interior. Later additions from the 19th century include the neo-Gothic elements, such as the pointed gables and the decorative turrets, which give the manor house its romantic character.

History of Ownership

The history of the Ruppersdorf manor house is closely linked to the noble families who owned it. From 1540 to 1830, the manor house was owned by the von Nostitz family, one of the most influential noble families in Saxony. During this period, the manor house experienced a heyday and was expanded into a representative residence. After the von Nostitz family, the manor house changed hands several times before it was expropriated in 1945 as part of the land reform.

Current Condition and Future

Today, the Ruppersdorf manor house is in need of renovation. Despite its dilapidated condition, it still bears witness to its former splendor and the eventful history of the region. Efforts are currently underway to find investors and develop concepts for the preservation and revitalization of this important historical monument. The goal is to make the manor house accessible to the public again and to give it a new future.
