Upper Castle Adelsheim

The origins of Oberschloss Adelsheim date back to 1504, when Sebastian von Adelsheim had the structure built next to a moated castle that had existed since the 14th century. This older moated castle, likely constructed in the first half of the 14th century, was destroyed in 1523 by the Swabian League, while Oberschloss remained intact. In 1590, a reconstruction in the Renaissance style took place. An expansion to include the “New Building” occurred in 1616. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was plundered and devastated multiple times, occupied by imperial troops in 1630 and by French troops in 1646, among others.
