Meuselwitz Orangerie

The origins of the castle complex date back to a moated castle in the 16th century. In 1676, the property passed into the possession of the von Seckendorff family, who redesigned the estate. Under Imperial Count Friedrich Heinrich von Seckendorff, the complex underwent extensive expansion between 1724 and 1727. During this period, the orangery was also built in the castle park, which had already been laid out in the French-Dutch style in 1709. The designs came from the Saxon state master builder David Schatz, while the construction was probably carried out by Johann Georg Hellbrunn. The castle and park were popular meeting places for high society, whose guests included Augustus the Strong and King Frederick William I of Prussia.
